January
8, 2002 Regular Meeting Minutes
President
Jack Pearson called the meeting to order at 7:15 PM.
Old
Business:
Nothing
to discuss.
New
Business:
Neighborhood
problems or complaints;
- At 118 South
Maryland, the owner is attempting to modify the structure to become
a triplex. The association opposes such modifications.
- Noise complaints
at the corner of St. Charles and Panama should be directed to the
MPD.
- Someone attempted
to set up a fruit stand on Winona but was stopped when neighbors
intervened.
Christmas
Tour
This
year was a great success! The weather cooperated and we had a terrific
turnout.
Ms.
Vann sold 150 tickets!
400+
tickets were sold at the door of the church on the day of the tour.
$4600 has been deposited so far.
$450
was collected from the sale of t-shirts.
The
Christmas Tree lighting in Armstrong Park was a new function this year
and was very well received by the neighborhood. The City of Montgomery
has authorized planting a live tree in place of the temporary Christmas
Tree.
B Barganier
Interior Accents, at 3000-D in Zelda Place, Montgomery, Alabama,
was recognized for donating the beautiful Christmas ornaments that were
given to the homeowners who graciously opened their homes to the public
for the tour. The association recommended a free ad in our newsletter
as thanks. (http://www.bbarganier.com/bb)
The
judges this year were;
Charlie
& Connie Colvin, Sandra and Jim Nichol, Chip DeShields of the Alabama
Preservation Alliance.
Suggestions
on how to spend the funds generated from this year’s tour:
- Repair the
benches in the neighborhood parks and perhaps purchase more benches.
- Add more power
(electricity) to Armstrong Park.
- Find a place
to store the signs, lights and other association property. Maybe
rent a storage room.
- Make a donation
to the church for the use of their facilities.
Treasurers
Report
Mark
Russell reported the association has approximately $12,000 in reserves
and with the net profit from the Christmas Tour, our balance is now
around $15,000.
Miscellaneous
- Next meeting
is in March and the Spring Fling is in April.
- Alexine has
offered to assume responsibility for the association newsletter.
In the newsletter, she will ask residents to let us now if they
want to continue receiving the newsletter and we will entertain
the idea of a limited mailing. Mailing to the entire neighborhood
was deemed too expensive.
- Mark Russell
reported the cost of printing newsletters is $150 for 1500 copies.
Jack Pearson is the contact if you would like to place an advertisement.
Ads last time were $25 for a business card sized ad on the back.
- Carole King
reported that the City Tree Committee will have a walking tour this
weekend on Saturday at 10:00 to tour the Cypress Pond area and Cypress
Creek.
- Alexine recommended
we provide nametags for the next meeting to help with member names.
Nearly everyone in attendance expressed support.
- A suggestion
was made to develop a sort of scrapbook with association notes and
literature. Discussion followed and it was commented that JnJTech
provides a website for CHCA that serves a similar function with
the minutes of meetings, etc. posted there. The address is www.jnjtech.com/capitolheights.
Mark
Russell moved the meeting be adjourned, Jim Robinson seconded and the
motion carried at 8:05 PM.
